HL Hunley Camp The
meeting was called to order and Commander Wright welcomed everyone and
we then had the blessing and pledges. We had 27 members turn out and 2
guests. Noel West & Mike Kemmerlin provided
the meal. It was lasagna
and all proceeds were donated to the Camp. No
new members were inducted but we voted in one new member, Terry Rhodes. The
floor was opened for nominations for new CHT board members but none were
made. Cmdr. Wright and 1st Lt. Cmdr. Willis indicated that
they would be willing to serve another three-year term. Our
guest speaker David Mitchell was introduced and he spoke on the
Andersonville Civil War Prison Camp. The prison was one of the largest
Confederate prison camps and over 45,000 Union soldiers were confined
there. Dale
Presley announced that the Irish Volunteers Reenactment group had been
formed as part of the 27th.
An invitation was extended for everyone to join. At
the May meeting a motion of the Camp to match donations to the Jefferson
Davis home and Presidential Library in Beauvoir, Mississippi was made. The motion was seconded, and passed, for Camp members to
make private donations to this fund with the Camp matching those
donations up to $500. In our June and July meeting we also plan to raffle
off three prints given to the camp by artist Larry Arnold and all
proceeds made, will also be given to the Jefferson Davis Home and
Presidential Library. The raffle tickets are $1 ea or 7 tickets for $5. Cmdr.
Wright and 1st Lt. Cmdr. Willis will ride together and plan
to stop and make these donations at the Jefferson Davis home
restoration.
